Hi all,
Ever have one of those weeks? You run around like a maniac, are always busy but don’t seem to be getting anything done? That’s what it was like for me the past couple of weeks.
It’s school holiday season in Edinburgh and that means that a lot of my clients are on holiday. Technically this should mean that I am less busy than usual and should be able to clear some of those long standing things off my to-do list.
And yet..I seem to be busier than ever and I just couldn’t tell you with what.
There have been several days where I have forgotten to have lunch, so I must have been busy. Looking back I have also only trained twice this week, I just “haven’t had the time”.
Which lead me to asking myself this question; If I don’t have the time to look after myself then who will?
I always harp on about “how health only takes 10 minutes a day“, and I’m right. Doing a mindful exercise routine for 10 minutes a day is very beneficial. But you still have to do it!
I understand the temptation to put everybody, and everything, ahead of yourself. Kids, job, household, family, friends, pets etc. They can all take precedence. But if you don’t look after yourself, sooner or later, you’ll end up no good to anyone.
I take reasonable care of myself. I eat well, exercise regularly, look after my mental health and make sure I get enough sleep. And yet life can sometimes run away from me a bit. So I have to remind myself to take care of myself and, if you feel the same, you probably could do with a reminder as well.
So here it is; clear your mind, switch off the telly..or turn it on if that’s what it takes to keep the kids quiet :)…and take 7-10 minutes to do your home routine.
Be mindful, focus on your breathing and your muscles.
You’ll feel better after it, I promise.
And here’s a picture of Buddy to make you feel even better still.
Take care,
Peter
BTW, I’ve been asked how little Waxie got on after spending a bit of time with us. I’m very pleased to say he found a home after a few days and 2 days after that he had a new best friend.
Just goes to show that you create the world you want.
