Hi all,
Mother’s day is coming up this month (22-03-20 in the UK) and I just thought I’d share a Mother’s day with you that will be healthy, make you feel great AND gives you a nice day with the people you love.
Mother’s day should be more than an extra 15 minute snooze before being woken up by kids bringing burnt toast with peanutbutter and orange juice for you to have in bed. (usually accompanied by a drawing of a “stick-mommy” that will have to be displayed prominently on the fridge for the next month)
Here’s a way to have a great Mother’s day that will have you feeling healthy, stronger and relaxed. Even if you can’t do all of these, doing just 2 or 3 will already having you feeling better by the end of the day, and that’s what Mother’s Day should be all about…right?
1; Switch off the alarm and get up when you naturally wake up. Try to avoid hitting a snooze button to get that extra 15 minutes “Because it’s mother’s day” only makes you groggier. Whereas if you can be left alone to wake up naturally you’ll feel fresher for it.
Here’s a video from the good people at Asapscience explaining it
2; Get a bit of exercise in. I’m not saying that you should hit the gym for an hour, though that’s great if you can. Doing even 10 minutes of exercise will get the muscles fired up and get those “happy hormones” flowing. Nothing like a little Dopamine and Seratonin kick to get you into a great mood.
Most of my clients like to do a core routine if time is limited but they want to feel great fast. You can download one here Mothers day core that’s very simple and doesn’t take too long. This is also safe to do for anyone who has recently given birth or is not used to being active. This really tightens those muscles up and will have your stomach feeling tighter and flatter the entire day.
3; Go out for a lovely brunch! A nice bit of crushed avocado on toast, with a fried or poached egg or a bit of salmon is not only tasty and healthy but it beats any burnt toast the kids could make you. A tasty brunch will keep you full of energy and feeling great.
If you’re lucky enough to live in Edinburgh HoneycombandCo in Bruntsfield or Café Vigo in Corstorphine are some of my favourite places to go for brunch in Edinburgh. (Other cafes are available) Both are child friendly and do great food for the little ones as well.
4; Go for a walk. Admittedly Mother’s day is in March so the weather can be a bit wonky but, if it’s a nice crisp day, taking the kids (and dog, if you’re lucky enough to have one) somewhere like Dalkeith Country Park is a very nice thing to do. An hour of fresh air and a bit of movement keeps the mind fresh and relaxed. And you can grab a coffee there as well.

5; Relax and enjoy whatever dinner gets made for you. I am, of course, assuming that all partners know how to cook. If they don’t then get them this for father’s day so that they’ll be up to scratch for next year 😊
There you have it; a bit of extra sleep, some exercise and a lovely relaxed day eating great food.
How could you not feel better after that?
Enjoy,
Peter
